Please see below some important follow-up information relating to the City of Brandon’s continued response to this weekend’s overland flooding and the current State of Local Emergency.
- The City of Brandon intends to request the Province of Manitoba begin a disaster financial assistance program relating to the weekend storm. Part of the process includes reporting the details of what happened during the storm event. To help the City of Brandon get an accurate picture of the property damage associated with the storm, residents who have experienced basement flooding, property flooding or damage related to downed trees are asked to let the City know. An automated City of Brandon Information Mailbox has been set up at 204-729-2438. Residents are asked to call and leave their name, phone number, physical property address and specific details relating to their damage.
- Downed trees on City property should be reported to the City of Brandon’s Public Works Department at 204-729-2285. Residents are asked to be patient as City crews respond to reports of downed trees, as there has been a backlog of calls from the weekend storm.
- Residents who have encountered downed trees on their own property are responsible for such clean-up and are encouraged to haul the debris to the Eastview Landfill (3300 Victoria Avenue East). A request for a bulky item pick-up may also be made by calling the City of Brandon Sanitation Department at 204-729-2281; however, due to the City of Brandon’s continued flood response, turn-around times may vary.
- Finally, the City of Brandon has closed the section of Victoria Avenue East from 33rd Street East to the junction of Highway 110 (Eastern By-Pass) due to water over the road.
